Film Raro2 Rules And Regulations

We are searching for up to eight great scripts to take into production at Film Raro2.

We are reviewing registered scripts now to establish a list of the best eight.

We will continue to take new scripts until December 20th, 2024.

Once satisfied with the script and its attached team is in the top eight then we will announce that team as being confirmed for production at the Film Raro2 event in April 2025.

We wish to start announcing teams In August 2024 with the final team to be named by December 2024.

It is best to get scripts in early to beat the rush, be assessed early, claim a spot in the top eight early, be selected during the early rounds of announcements.

The Script

Our brief is simple, we want the scriptwriter to be freely creative in the piece they write but they need to do some homework, consider the people, environment and elements they have to work with in Rarotonga. Yes the location is a tropical island but use it in any way you wish. If you were a painter then Film Raro would provide certain colours and a specific canvas. The picture you paint is up to you.

Entry Eligibility

  • Entry open to anyone with a desire to make a great film
  • You must be of 18+ years of age
  • Able to speak English as this will be our primary production language
  • Be available to travel to Rarotonga to shoot and screen your film from the 3rd to the 12th of April 2025.

Filmmakers must submit a script that fulfils the criteria below:

  1. Be of any duration up to 10 min but not exceeding 20 min
  2. Be in English.
  3. Be of any genre a drama, documentary, comedy, scifi, horror etc.
  4. Be suitable for a General Admission audience
  5. Be written for filming with a digital HD camera.
  6. Be logistically able to be shot, edited and finished for a public screening in eight days. 
  7. Be written for and feasible to shoot in the tropical south pacific location of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands taking into account you will be using local talent, props, locations etc. All pre-production on final selected scripts will be locked down before you and your crew arrive.
  8. Be in early to go on to our top 8 list. We will assess and dialogue with the teams of the best scripts to make selections as early as August. More assessment time for first in first served.
  9. Be able to be shot and edited with all equipment you will bring with you to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.

Script Assessment

  • The final selection process will involve discussions between Film Raro2 producers and a short list of projects/ scripts.
  • These discussions will determine the final up to eight projects/ scripts and crews that will go into production on location in Rarotonga the Cook Island April 2025.
  • Film Raro will start naming finalist crews by August 2024 with all crews named by the end of December 2024.
